Category: Life Scope monitoring product review
In
this record we reviewed and shared the Ethernet networking interface of NIHON KOHDEN Life Scope BSM-1100 series, Life Scope BSM-2300 series, Life Scope BSM-4100 series and the Life Scope BSM-5100 series using third-party interface designed for PC use.
Up to now, NIHON KOHDEN had not designed a monitor with an isolated Ethernet network interface. A
few older NIHON KOHDEN Life Scope patient monitors, namely the BSM-1100 series, BSM-2300 series, BSM-4100
series and BSM-5100 series do not have RJ-45 sockets on the patient
monitors but instead uses third-party PCMCIA Ethernet Adapter card for
Ethernet connectivity. This PCMCIA Ethernet adapter ironically solved the problem of isolation for NIHON KOHDEN for a period until their obsolescence from the PC market.

It is not necessary to use a Network Isolation Unit if the network connection is via the PCMCIA interface since this is already internally isolated; such QI-101P network interface card
are no longer available in the market and therefore NIHON KOHDEN can no longer use this method for isolated Ethernet networking. This means newer NIHON KOHDEN monitor models must make use of the Network Isolation Unit for patient safety.
